ANGELS TAKE YANKEES
07/22/2010
In a surprising turn of events, the all powerful New York Yankees have been defeated by the L.A. Angels of Anaheim. No matter that they are missing some of the offensive lineup with Pettitte out of commission, the Angles were on point as they ended the game 10-2.
If you follow baseball at all, you now who Heideki Matsui is, the Asian phenom has been making headlines for years now, and on Monday he found his groove and really let the Yankees have it. Not having connected for a home run in three weeks, he certainly made up for it with a two run homer.
The pitching, fielding, and batting demonstrated by LA on Tuesday was great. Taking out one of the strongest teams in the nation, they looked firmly composed as they controlled the game from the start. They surely realized that this is the time to get wins against the Yanks, as they are missing a key component of their strategy.
With a strained groin, Any Pettitte is out on the injured list. This is not a good thing for the Yankees at this moment. They face a team that has one of their former power players on its roster. Matsui has been cause for concern over his last 50 at bats, but it seems he changed that. Angels manager Mike Scioscia was happy with the result of the game. If they can get Matsui back in top form, there will be more games like this in the future.
Maicer Izturis and Mike Napoli also hit two-run homers for the Angels, the L.A. based team simply exploited the weakened Yankees. They were forced to stand hopeless as the Angels rounded the bases again and again.
