GIANTS TAKE DODGERS AT HOME

07/21/2010

Rivalries fuel great competition, and rivalries in baseball fuel legends. On Monday, a great rivalry between the Giants and the Dodgers saw another chapter added. The Giants took the Dodgers in a game that ended 5-2 in LA.

This was a great game for San Francisco fans, the game was a awesome display of sportsmanship. The Giants were in top form as they ran circles around the Dodgers. Some great fielding paired with excellent work at the plate pushed them ahead. The Giants have moved past Colorado with their 10th win in 12 games.

Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run homer for the Giants. The fourth inning proved to be the turning point of the game. Since the All Star break, these guys have been up 5 games in a row, really locking down the opposition. All-Star Brian Wilson pitched the ninth and loaded the bases with two outs. He earned his 26th save in 28 chances. Incidentally he tied for the NL record with this one.

LA had it’s moments of brilliance as well, some fancy pitching allowed them to squeeze out of some tight situations, but the Giants returned the favor and battered them into the dirt. With a overwhelmingly strong lineup, the Giants looked flawless in the field, and excellent at the plate.

If they can manage to keep it up, the will be in contention for leadership of the western division, currently topped by the San Diego Padres. The Giants are 4 games back with a .548 win percentage.  They will need to push hard to overtake the Padres, but anything is possible for these guys.
